Documentary Tour: The Heavy Oil Giant… Behind the Scenes of Production at the “Awda” Oil Field

From the heart of the rural Qahtaniyah (Tirbespiyê) region in the Hasakah Governorate, the story of black gold continues. Here at the Awda field, a key component of the strategic Rmeilan oil fields system, energy flows with tireless engineering determination to bolster the national economy and secure the country’s needs.

The facility’s organizational and operational structure is based on precise integration between the wells and processing plants:

The Production System and Separation Plants

The field is characterized by its unique geological nature and includes an integrated operational network comprising:

  • Producing Wells: The system includes 18 operational oil wells dedicated to producing crude oil (classified as heavy oil).
  • Main Gas and Separation Plant: The engineering center responsible for receiving the well flow and conducting the initial separation processes to isolate natural gas and impurities from the crude oil.

Logistics Network and Supply Lines
A coordinated work cycle ensures continuous flow and addresses technical challenges:

  • Refineries and Terminals: The field facilities are connected to a sophisticated transportation network that feeds into surrounding refineries and major terminals (such as the Tell Adas and Karziro terminals) to ensure efficient product collection and distribution.
  • Field Maintenance: Dedicated technical teams possess extensive experience in operating heavy oil lifting and pumping equipment and maintaining the readiness of drilling rigs and wells.

How does the work cycle work? (From reservoir to distribution network)

  • Extraction and Separation: Heavy oil is extracted from underground reservoirs and immediately directed to the main gasification plant to separate associated components. Transportation and Collection: The processed crude is pumped via pipelines and tankers to major collection stations in the Hasakah countryside, in preparation for final refining operations.
  • Challenge and Continuity: Through the efforts of skilled workers and engineers who have faced various technical and logistical challenges, the production cycle continues to ensure the fuel for sustainable development.
